I made this towel wedding cake for my daughter in laws bridal shower. Everyone had to get close and touch it because they thought it was the real cake.

A towel cake shower gift is easy to create by pinning together different size towels found on the bride’s wedding registry. The towels are rolled and shaped into a cake and then decorated with ribbons and flowers. Use your creativity to decorate your masterpiece.

What You Need to Make a Towel Cake Wedding Shower Gift

  • 2 to 4 bath size towels
  • 2 to 3 hand size towels
  • 2 to 4 washcloths
  • Large safety pins
  • Large or extra-large straight pins
  • Thin wooden dowels
  • Decorative items such as ribbon, faux flowers and small bouquet
  • 3 different size ruffle board trays by Wilton (I used a 14in.-12-10 )  make a hole in the center of each tray
  • Glue gun

How to Make a Towel Cake Wedding Shower Gift

Before beginning to make the towel cake gather all of the towels and pins and bring them to a clean, large, flat surface such as a dining room table and read through all of the instructions.

  1. Lay one bath towel horizontally on the table and fold the bottom third of the towel up and the upper third of the towel down using straight pins if necessary.
  2. Fold the second bath towel and connect the ends of the folded towels together using safety pins.  Repeat this procedure with all of the bath towels.
  3. Roll the towels to form the bottom layer of the cake and secure the end with a combination of safety and straight pins.
  4. Set the base of the cake on your largest ruffle tray and stick the dowel in the center.
  5. Fold the hand towels in half and lay them end to end. Use safety pins to connect them together.
  6. Roll and pin them to form the second layer of the towel cake. Secure the ends of the towels with safety and straight pins. Place the next ruffle tray through the dowel to sit on the towels and place your hand towels through center of the roll.
  7. Stick the towel roll on the wooden dowel on top of the bottom layer. Repeat the same procedure with the washcloths. Place your smallest ruffle tray through dowel and place your wash cloth roll on top. Place your bouquet on top of your cake and decorate.

How to Decorate a Towel Cake Wedding Shower Gift

Place the towel cake on a large platter or cake plate. Use straight pins to pin strips of ribbon to the towel cake. Cut real or fake flowers and place them on the top and sides of the cake. I also used the glue gun to place rose petals around the cake. You can also use wide ribbon to secure the towel rolls.  Wrap the towel cake in a large clear bag and tie the top with matching ribbon to present to the bride.

Always use caution when working around the kitchen, stove and cutlery.
